Bangkok (BKK) has been the capital of Thailand since 1782. It is known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, and famously bears the world's longest city name of Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit which translates to "the city of angels, the great city, the residence of the Emerald Buddha, the impregnable city of Ayutthaya of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarn".
Nowadays, Bangkok is popular among tourists as one of the world’s top destinations. The city has various visitor attractions, from amazing historical and cultural sites such as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho, the Grand Palace and the National Museum to famous shopping and entertainment districts such as Khaosan Road, China Town (Yaowarat Road), Chatuchak Market (JJ Market), and Icon Siam.
